What is A.A.?<\/h2>\n

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of people who come together to solve their drinking problem. It doesn\u2019t cost anything to attend A.A. meetings. There are no age or education requirements to participate. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about their drinking problem.<\/p>\n

A.A.\u2019s primary purpose is to help alcoholics to achieve sobriety.<\/p>\n

What is a District?<\/h3>\n

According to the General Service Manual \u201cA district is a geographical unit containing the right number of groups \u2013 right in terms of the committee member\u2019s ability to keep in frequent touch with them, to learn their problems, and to find ways to contribute to their growth and well-being.\u201d (page S28)<\/p>\n

District One is located southeast of Las Vegas and includes Henderson, Boulder City, Laughlin and Searchlight.<\/p>\n

Who is District One?<\/h3>\n

District One is composed of the District Committee Member (DCM), the Alternate District Committee Member (ADCM), the treasurer, the secretary, and the General Service Representatives (GSR\u2019s).
The DCM, ADCM, treasurer and secretary are elected by the GSR\u2019s every two years. The GSR\u2019s represent their home groups and are elected by the group to communicate via the District to all levels of service work in Alcoholics Anonymous.<\/p>\n

When does District One Meet?<\/h3>\n

District One meets monthly at various locations. Twice a year the meetings are at the Area Assembly in Tonopah, where all the districts meet to discuss the business of AA in all of Nevada. Four times a year the District meets at Central Office for the Southern Area meeting (SAGSC), where only the districts from the southern half of Nevada get together to do the work of AA. Lastly, the District meets six times a year at the Las Vegas Central Office.<\/p>\n

A.A.\u2019s Twelfth Step suggests that we carry the message of recovery. That is the basic service that A.A. provides. Any action that helps A.A. to function as a whole is service. Most A.A. members start out providing service in their group.<\/p>\n
